This is the dial, a new social network.

The main idea is to give the user full control over the algorithm, through simple sliders and knobs, as seen on the column to the left. These controls will be enabled for all logged users.

These controls will create a timeline where only the posts that will match the ranges are displayed. The priority knobs determine how these posts will be sorted. If the user sets up a high priority for engagement, for instance, the posts with greater number of likes and comments and also those posted from users with the greatest number of followers will be shown first.

The base math that guides the sorting process is published (please visit this page for more information).

In addition, the user can select specific categories that apply to the published content. In the algorithm control panel it is possible to select the categories you’d like to filter on your timeline. If no categories are selected, all posts will be considered.

When the user clicks on a specific post, it is shown with the full text and all comments, in chronological order, newest comment first. On the left column, instead of the dashboard panel, the user will be able to rate the post, not with simple like/dislike options, but a gradient of ratings, from fully dislike to absolutely like (in a scale from -5 to +5, with 0.1 steps). With these sliders, the user will be able to rate the post for his approval, his perception of the post’s political leaning, the comedic content (humor), and the veracity. These values will be used to generate averages to each post, that will be shown in the final display. The math of these calculations is also published.

Another detail, a post can also be labelled apolitical or non-factual. An “apolitical” post cannot be rated on political leaning and “non-factual” post cannot be rated on veracity.

Finally, at this same screen it is possible to post a new comment to that post. Comments will be displayed along with the username and the date it was submitted.
